You can quickly patch minor leaks with tape so the auditor can identify the source more clearly. Refrain from permanently closing gaps before the audit since auditors require unaltered conditions.

Clear pathways to your electrical panel, water heater, furnace, air conditioner, and any attic or crawl spaces. Clear away boxes, tools, or stored items that might hinder inspection. If your attic has thermal barriers, don’t move it or cover it up—auditors need to evaluate the actual condition.

Turn off any fans, heaters, or air conditioners at least 60 minutes prior to the visit. This supports reliable blower door testing of heat gradients and draft pathways. Should your home use a programmable thermostat, adjust it to a default setting and avoid making manual adjustments during the visit.

Last but not least, come prepared with inquiries. Grasp the reasoning behind the evaluations. Ask for recommendations on the most cost effective upgrades. Record key insights or obtain a digital copy afterward so you can follow through on recommended actions.
