Using a coffee scale for double shots is one of the best ways to ensure consistency and quality in your espresso

The standard double shot uses between 18 and 20 grams of coffee to produce roughly 60ml of liquid espresso

Instead of guessing based on timer readings or cup fill lines, a scale lets you track exact input and output, ensuring consistency and قهوه پارتاک superior taste

Start by placing your portafilter on the scale and taring it to zero

By taring, you isolate the exact amount of ground coffee being dosed

Grind your coffee straight from the grinder into the portafilter basket

Adjust your dose within the 18–20g range based on your equipment and desired strength

Beginners often succeed with 18g, but feel free to experiment with 17.5g or 19.5g to fine-tune flavor

After dosing, gently redistribute the grounds using a tool like a WDT or your fingertip

Tamping ensures a level, dense puck—use consistent downward pressure to avoid channeling

A level tamp promotes uniform extraction and prevents water from tunneling through weak spots

Reset the scale to zero after tamping to measure only the extracted espresso

Your setup is now precise—initiate the shot with full control

Monitor the scale in real time as the espresso flows

The ideal double shot yield falls within the 36–40g range

A 1:2 yield ratio ensures rich extraction without over- or under-extracting

Many professionals consider the 1:2 ratio the gold standard for balanced double shots

If your shot runs too fast and you get less than 36 grams, your grind is probably too coarse

If it runs too slow and you get more than 40 grams, your grind is likely too fine

Keep a record of your doses and yields

Track extraction duration, burr setting, and flavor notes like sweetness, acidity, or bitterness

Over time, you’ll learn what works best for your beans and equipment

Tweak your dose by 0.5g or adjust yield by 2g—tiny shifts yield dramatic flavor results

While measuring adds a few seconds to your routine, the improvement in consistency is undeniable

You’ll stop guessing and start knowing exactly what your espresso is doing

Consistent results come from measurement, not luck—scale-based brewing is the ultimate path to espresso excellence
